Custom Checkout Fields
Custom Checkout Fields
Every extra checkout field costs orders, and every market needs slightly different ones. StoreConsole lets each store decide exactly what checkout asks for, using the same Form Builder that powers your contact and lead forms.
How it works
- Checkout reads a schema: a published Form Builder form that lists the fields, their order, which are required and how addresses are split.
- Until you choose one, checkout uses the built-in form, so nothing changes by surprise.
- A ready-made template that matches the built-in checkout is provided. Clone it and change only what you need.
Set it up
- Open Form Builder and clone the checkout template.
- Remove fields you do not need (company name, a second address line) and add the ones you do (delivery notes, a tax number, a preferred delivery time).
- Decide whether email is required. Some stores sell by phone number only; checkout supports both.
- If your delivery areas are set up as a map of regions, address fields can ask for the region one level at a time.
- Add consent checkboxes (terms, privacy, marketing) where your law requires them. Required consents are enforced before an order can be placed.
- Publish the form, then open Checkout → Settings and select it.
Errors customers can fix
Every problem appears under the field it belongs to — including errors that come back from the server, saved addresses, payment and booking fields — so a shopper never has to guess what is wrong.
Good practice
- Show the delivery charge in the cart, even approximately. A charge that appears for the first time at the last step is the most common cause of abandonment.
- Where you sell to one country or offer one payment method, the field is shown fixed rather than as a choice.
